Food café & BAR SPLASH

A cafe and bar which gives rise to new chance encounters here and there every night.

Splash is celebrating its 10 year anniversary since opening for business.
This cozy cafe and bar has an at home feel and is managed by a shopkeeper with a big-sisterly disposition.

Although the alchohol is centered around awamori and sake, if there is a request from the customer, she spares no expense in rapidly expanding her stock.
On the contrary, sending off for and providing the recommended liquors from the hometowns of her regulars who were born outside the prefecture creates a pleasant “give-and-take” relationship with her customers.

While it may appear that there are absurdly numerous styles of cocktails, she is also able to satisfy these requests. In particular, it seems that foreign guests are often ordering the latest recipes that are becoming popular locally.
“Because they look it up on a smartphone and say, ‘It’s this,’ while showing it to me, I’m able to make more and more things with the liquor available on hand” says the shopkeeper happily.

“One of the best parts of this place is that the shopkeeper has a personality in which she chats with you so warmly” says a regular customer who has transferred to Kinchou for work. It seems that although it has only been a week since they come to Okinawa, they’ve really hit it off with the shopkeeper! The guest also said that she made lots of friends by way of the shop after coming to there to place a request.

When talking with her guests about things like their birthplace and hobbies, if the shopkeeper notices a common feature between fellow customers who happen to be present, she’ll say, “Hey! One of your mates is also here!” and introduce them to one another. Even today, one can witness foreigners getting along with one another and shaking hands, regardless of their home countries.

When a regular guests’s work assignment is finished and they return to their hometowns, they say to their colleagues who get assigned to Okinawa, “If you go to Kinchou, you absolutely must go to that shop.” It’s often the case that guests who come knocking at Splash’s door say “I came here because so-and-so recommended it.”
