Satisfying locals' appetites for over 30 years.
Popular town diner offering the reassuring taste of Okinawa home cooking

Izumi Diner, which overlooks Kinbu Bay, is a popular diner where the customers keep coming long after lunchtime has passed. Originally opened in 1978 by the parents of the current owners, Yasumasa Hiyane and his wife, in Uruma City in Ishikawa, the diner moved to Kinbu Bay in 1994. It did so without changing its commitment to homemade cooking and has continued to be loved by locals as a result.

Maybe it’s the undressed concrete interior, which evokes the diners of yesteryear, but Uchina Diner has that kind of feeling that makes it easy even for first timers to step inside. Single diner, couple or family, Uchina Diner puts them all at their ease.

The tatami room at the back of the diner with the window views of the sea are particularly recommended.

Izumi Diner
Take you pick from the likes of fried set meal, Okinawan stir-fry, fried rice, or curry – each has its own fans – but they are all offered at reasonable prices and in hearty portions. The “Debichi” dish of tender pig’s trotters simmered for four hours and accompanied by Yasumasa-san’s homegrown vegetables is particularly popular.

The local radio station plays in the background, allowing you to while away your time as you enjoy your meal. The entrance to the diner is lined with signs that Yasumasa-san created himself to introduce the radio programs, which lends a touch of local charm.

Second generation owner of the diner, Hiroto-san smiles and holds a radio. Passed down from father to son, the flavor of “The” Okinawan diner overflows with warmth.
