“Karaoke Togenkyo” in Shinkaichi is a place, as its name suggests, where everyone sings Karaoke.

It is most crowded between midnight and 1am on weekends. When you open the door, you are welcomed by a hint of incense.

Togenkyo has 6 counter seats and 2 tables. It is a bar, where the locals in their 30s can always come to have a relaxing drink.

Well, we thought that at first, but we also heard a rumor that, “it is owned by the funniest person in Shinkaichi!”

The owner, Nao Shirota (Naoshi), is an ex-drummer for the band, Zukan. He told us with a smile that he is “studying comedy now.” This explains the rumor that the funniest person in Shinkaichi runs this place.

Nao said, “we welcome first-timers and tourists!” Wouldn’t you like to open the door to Togenkyo, to see if the rumor is true?
