Bordering Uruma-shi, Tsurumiya Ramen is one of few ramen shops in Kinchou. In addition to individual ramen dishes where you can pick a soy sauce, tonkotsu, miso or shio broth, the menu is brimming with ramen and set lunch specials. It’s open 24 hours, serving beer, ramen, special combos and Chinese style snacks, making it perfect for use as an izakaya at night.

The first thing that stood out to me at the entrance was the goldfish swimming peacefully and the kettle that’s reminiscent of a “shishi-odoshi” bamboo piece.

If you look towards the back you’ll see that this ramen joint has a curious terrace-like bar seating area.

The interior has the air of an old Chinese ramen shop. The owner’s son, Kouken Yoza, greeted us saying, “The kettle? My father made that by himself (lol). The outdoor bar is also a recent addition”.

This classic tonkotsu and chicken broth can be put together with different toppings, like chashu, spareribs, and black squid ink ramen, making for an array of toppings and combinations. Plus, you can choose from 4 base flavors, so there’s plenty of variety to choose from! Mr. Kouken brought this popular item over with a big, refreshing smile.

Here’s a miso-based “Togarashi Ramen”. The thick miso permeates the red broth, making it so spicy and delicious to the point that your chopsticks and spoon just can’t stop. You can adjust how spicy yours is by requesting when you order. The gyoza potstickers I ordered on the side have a thin skin and are stuffed lightly with vegetables. This is great~!!

The second floor is connected to a lodging facility, so in the summer there are apparently many tourists, in addition to the locals. On a nice day like this the only thing missing was sipping on ramen at the bar counter.
